Official Saga Map-Room

The Saga of Black Wings

A living map of books, characters, rogues, odes, maps, lore, beast-witnesses, hidden roads and black-winged memory.

The Map of Everything

Welcome to the public map-room of The Saga of Black Wings, a dark epic fantasy world of ravens, wolves, salt-marsh roads, old law, chosen family, dangerous mercy, hidden houses, odes, songs, beasts, roots, crowns, refusal and love that will not be owned.

This page is the front gate. From here, readers can find the books, the Braid, the rogues, the lore, the odes, the maps, the visual archive and the author behind the long road.

“A map is not only where things are. Sometimes it is what survived being lost.”

The Main Roads

Start here. These are the main roads through the site.

Books: Books I to XIII, Book XIV in development, and the planned road toward Books XV to XX. Characters: the Braid, familia, children, beast-witnesses, spirits, hidden kin and every name the dark failed to erase. Rogues Gallery: crowns, roots, false mercy, bad laws, old enemies, hidden powers and things that should never have been trusted. World & Lore: Vardrum, Witness Isle, the Salt-Marsh, the Underroot, the Agreement, House-law, beast-law and old roads. Odes & Saga Plates: songs, epitaphs, skaldic fragments, website-exclusive mystery plates and the poetic law of Black Wings. Maps: the road-map of the saga, places, routes, marshes, houses, roads and visual geography of Vardrum. Visual Archive: beast and bird witnesses, shields, crests, saga plates and future illustrated lore. Author: Timothy M. Halliday, writing as T.M.H, and the forty-year making of the saga.

The Saga Shelf

The completed road currently runs from Book I through Book XIII, with Book XIV, The House Beyond the House, now begun.

Books XV to XX are also in planning and development as the next major arc of the saga. Their titles remain sealed for now, but the road is open, the ravens are flying, and Vardrum is not finished speaking.

The People, Beasts and Witnesses

The Saga of Black Wings is built from names. Large names, small names, hidden names, animal names, old names, wounded names and names power tried to make disappear.

The Braid: FATAS, Ness, Mia, Maisie, James, Cael, Brokan, Eldwyn, Ulrike, Jesse, Lucy and the chosen family around them. Familia: Katy, Jenny, Josie, Little Hearth, children, families, rescued names and the ordinary care that keeps people alive. Beast and Bird Witnesses: Mad, Benson, Hugo, Blue, Scarlet, Dusk, Jack, Shane, Mylo, Glimra and the animals who know what people miss. Spirits and Remembered Dead: flame, bell, old witness, ancestor, prophecy and love that refuses to vanish.

The World Beneath the Wings

Vardrum is not just scenery. It remembers. Roads listen. Marshes hold old truth. Houses keep breath. Crowns write lies. Roots reach beneath the floor.

Odes, Songs and Saga Law

The odes are not decoration. They are witness, warning, grief, humour, refusal, love, road-memory and the old language of things that cannot be filed away.

The Law of the Road

These are some of the living laws that run beneath the saga.

Care freely given is not ransom. Names belong to the named. Origin is not ownership. Desperation is not permission. Bloodline is witness, not claim. A child is never proof. Refusal is a living law. The Braid is offer, not net.

The Author

Timothy M. Halliday, writing as T.M.H, has carried and shaped The Saga of Black Wings for around forty years.

The saga is deeply personal: a lifetime of imagination, animals, grief, humour, wounds, friendship, neighbours, roads, houses, ravens, wolves, love, darkness and stubborn hope transformed into epic fantasy.

Begin Anywhere

The road does not demand one doorway. Begin with the books, the characters, the odes, the animals, the maps or the author. Every path leads deeper into Black Wings.

“The map ends only where courage stops drawing.”
